

LEWIS ROBERT D. G. LEWIS Robert D. G. Lewis was born in Chicago, IL on January 16, 1932. He passed away on July 10 at Inova Fairfax Heart and Vascular Institute in Northern Virginia surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Reverend Doctor James Lee and Betty (nee Ryden) Lewis. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1955 with a Bachelors' of Arts in Journalism. His career started as a Reporter, city editor Galesburg (Illinois) Register-Mail, 1955-59; reporter, business editor Kalamazoo Gazette, 1960-64; state capitol corr. Booth Newspapers, Lansing, Michigan, 1964-66, Washington corr., 1966-87, Newhouse Newspapers, White House correspondent, 1987-91; senior editor Am. Association Retired Persons Bulletin, 1991-99; retired, 1999; managing director Lewis Properties, 2000- 2012. He held memberships with the National Press Club (chairman of the board of governors 1975-77), White House Corr. Association, Society Professional Journalists, serving as chairman Freedom of Information Committee 1978-83, sec.-treas., pres.-elect to president 1983-86, U.S. Capital Hist. Society, Supreme Court Hist. Society, and the Cosmos Club. He also sat on the Board of Visitors, Les Aspin Center for Government Marquette University, 1996-2012. He received a November 18, 1985 commendation on the Senate floor by US Sen. Don Riegle; Member of the Warren E. Berger Society of the National Center for State Courts; recipient of the Society of Professional Journalism Wells Key award 1980 for outstanding service, and an Eagle Scout, Boy Scouts of America. He is a founder of WISH LLC, Washington Intern Student Housing. He is survived by his wife of 24 years Jacqueline McGregor Lewis, his children: Peter, Sarah, Mary, John, Elizabeth, Daniel, Susan, Katy, Sara, and the late Jill; his siblings: Mary Lewis Lindskog and the late James Lewis, Jr., and Eleanor Lewis Nelson: and 17 grandchildren. A visitation will take place on Friday July 13th from 4-6 PM, with a memorial service to follow at 6 PM at Joseph Gawler's Sons LLC 5130 Wisconsin Avenue NW Washington, DC 20016. Private interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Robert D.G.
