Rose was born in Florida, OH to William and Christine Mengerink and was the youngest and last surviving of fourteen children. She moved to the Washington area in 1952 with Daniel Bella where she raised her children, Diane and Daniel, in Glen Echo and Potomac. Rose married James Morehead in December 1975 and moved to Gaithersburg. In 1996 Rose and Jim moved to Havre de Grace, MD, until February 2010 when they moved to Morningside House of Ellicott City, MD. Rose worked for many government agencies, including the Defense Mapping Agency and Consumer Product Safety Commission earning numerous awards over the years.
Rose was a loving mother, step-mother and grandmother to: Diane and Robert Cockrell and son Craig and wife Brittany, Daniel Bella and sons Dillon and Wyatt, as well as James Morehead, and Robert, Joan, and daughter Samantha Jo Morehead. Rose leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends. Rose was very active at Bethesda’s Pilgrim Lutheran Church in the Women’s Guild, Bel Air’s St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Daylighters, and served as Secretary for the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Rose was kind and patient, supportive and trusting. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.
Relatives and friends may call at Joseph Gawler’s Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, Washington, DC 20016 on Sunday, February 12 from 1-3 p.m. or 5-8 p.m., when a memorial service will be held. Interment is at Parklawn Memorial Park, 12800 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, MD 20852 on Monday, February 13 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 1200 Churchville Road, Bel Air, MD 21014 or Alzheimer’s Association, .
