Silvia Freyre Hill of Washington, DC, known to all who loved her as Bibi, passed away on February 26th, 2025, surrounded by family. Bibi was a proud Cuban American, born September 30th, 1948, in Havana. She was one of eight children of Fabio Oscar Freyre and Silvia Nuñez Freyre. She married her husband of almost 50 years, Nicholas Hill, in June 1975.
Bibi was a loving and committed mother and wife, and her daughters’ biggest cheerleader. By example, she taught them how to be independent, strong, kind women. She relished her time as a grandmother.
When her daughters were young, she began a 17-year career at Norwood School that both fulfilled her professionally and allowed her to be present at home for her family.
Vibrant, creative and unafraid to defy convention, Bibi was a talented artist and chef, an avid reader, and a lover of gardening, culture and travel. Those who knew her loved her engaging personality, inclusive spirit, sharp wit, contagious laugh, and loving approach towards family and friends. She enjoyed hosting and enthusiastically welcomed loved ones into her home. Bibi’s black beans and cheese plates live on.
Bibi leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, and family who miss her: her husband, Nicholas Hill; her daughters, Alison Hill and her husband Jake Livingston, and Magdalena (Maña) Hill and her husband Andres Ravinet; her grandchildren, Alina and Javier Ravinet; Silda Monpie and Reina Moreno (Tachi & Neni), who loved and cared for her as their own daughter; her seven siblings, Maria Magdalena Mejer, Eneas Freyre and his wife Nancy, Margarita Tomai, Angela Mariana Freyre, Caridad Duque and her husband Ricardo, Alina Hoyos and her husband Francisco, and Fabio Freyre and his wife Amy; all of her nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Sweetpea.
A celebration of Bibi’s life will take place with family in Spring 2025.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bibi’s name to the Fund a Fellow program at the Center for Neurodegenerative Disorders at Georgetown University Medical Center, where Bibi was a patient. The program provides funding to train early-career neurologists as movement and memory disorder specialists through a two-year fellowship. This fellowship prepares clinicians to better diagnose neurodegenerative disorders, such as Lewy body disease, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and multiple sclerosis, and to work with patients and families to enhance care access and outcomes.
