

Sylvia Ann Simmons, 85, of Chevy Chase, Maryland and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, passed away on September 1, 2025.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1940 to Dr. Paul and Fannie Knott, Sylvia met the love of her life, Robert L. Simmons, MD, while attending Howard University. They were married in 1960 and shared 62 years together until his passing in 2022.
Sylvia’s life was defined by her love of family, friends, travel and her passion for helping those in need. She was a champion for several causes in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
In the 1980s, Sylvia discovered Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and together with her husband, Bob, created a cherished second home. There, they welcomed family and friends, embracing their love of culture, community, and togetherness.
Throughout her life, Sylvia traveled widely, traveling to Southeast Asia, India, Africa, South America and Europe.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter Leslie (O.G.) of Chevy Chase, Maryland, and sons Robert (Mark) of Denver, Colorado, Michael of Phoenix, Arizona; and Christopher (Brighid) of San Diego, California; six grandchildren: Brandon (Joe), Sloane, Austin, Amaya, Kieran, and Serena. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Eleanor Quash (Joseph) of Bethesda, Maryland and a brother-in-law, Edward Simmons, of Charleston, South Carolina.
Sylvia will always be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her generosity, and her unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
