Al was born on February 27th, 1929 in Tulln, Austria to Josef and Anna Sirucek. He came to America when he was 9 months old and grew up in Manhattan. After graduating high school 2 years early, he attended St. Jerome’s University in Ontario, CA where he discerned the priesthood and earned a Masters in Philosophy. He then joined the United States Marine Corps. While serving in the USMC, he was introduced to the love of his life, his beloved Brenda who lived in London. They were introduced through letters by his best friend, who was marrying Brenda’s sister, and they fell in love! She emigrated to the U.S. and they were married in 1957. They were married for 59 years.
After serving in the Marine Corps, he began a career as a Real Estate Property Manager in New York City at many different locations. He was also a Director of Housekeeping of major hospitals in New York City. Several years after permanently relocating to Orange County in 1972, he became a Corrections Officer at Orange County Jail. It was there that God used him as he led a Prison Ministry and facilitated Mass for the inmates. After retiring, he continued his ministry at the Jail for several years.
The things Al cherished most in life were God, his family and being a Marine. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish in Washingtonville for over half a century as well as a lector for many years. He was also involved in the Nocturnal Adoration Society, Knights of Columbus and a Catholic Charismatic Community; The Word of Life.
Al was a loving father to Alison Range, Pine Bush, NY; Adam Siruchek of Campbell Hall, NY; Hilary and Michael Scotto, Middletown, NY; Craig Siruchek, Jensen Beach, FL; and Jason and Jill Siruchek, Campbell Hall, NY. Loving Grandad to his grandchildren and their spouses; Mary Range, Beth Range, Andrew Range, Peter Range, Emily Range, Gregory Range, Jessica North, Matthew Siruchek, Sharon McNamee, Erik Siruchek, Nicole Collignon, Alexandra Scotto, Paul Scotto, Isabella Scotto, John Scotto, Jack Siruchek, Devon Siruchek, Lily Siruchek, Sophia Siruchek, and Aubrey Siruchek, as well as his 21 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law; Marie Usher, St. Petersburg, FL and nieces and nephews.
Al was pre-deceased by his wife, Brenda, brother, Josef Sirucek, and his grandsons, Thomas Casey and Boog Siruchek.
We are grateful that he is no longer in pain and frustrated by his limitations as a result of his strokes. In the days leading up to his death, he was constantly surrounded by family. In his final moments, he listened to the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy.
We will miss your love and your jokes. We are truly blessed that you were ours.
Our family is eternally grateful to Hilary Scotto and her entire family for the constant care and sacrifice over the past 7 years that Dad lived with them.
