

Evelyn Narjas a long time resident Washingtonville, NY passed away peacefully on March 25, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY. She was 96. Evelyn was born in Peekskill, NY on August 17, 1913 to Isaac and Frances (Ingersoll) Bell.
She worked for Western Union for 13 years. She retired in 1976 after 20 years of service from Lederle Labs. Upon retiring Evelyn directed the music program for Office of the Aging and brought music to local nursing homes for 20 years, she was a great lover of music. She was in many bands throughout her life including Rockland County Band, Haverstraw Band, Saddle River Concert Band, Orange County Band and a group along with her husband known as “The Melody Trio”. She was an alto soloist who sang for 35 years at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Tuxedo, NY, the Rockland County Chorus as well as the Classical Chorus in Orange County. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chester, NY. Evelyn was known for her love of hats, the color pink and animals. She brought joy wherever she went and always had a smile for everyone. Her smile and kind ways will be greatly missed by all.
She was predeceased by her husband John Narjas, her brother Norman and sister Doris.
Evelyn leaves behind her sister-in-law and dear friend Margaret Billy of Suffern, NY along with many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn’s family would like to thank the staff at Good Samaritan Hospital and United Hospice of Rockland for all the care they showed Evelyn.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, March 27 from 10-11am with a funeral service at 11am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chester, NY. Burial will be held at Glenwood Cemetery in Waverly, NY.
