John E. Donaldson

John E. Donaldson Sr. entered into rest on October 4, 2011 at Nyack Hospital. John was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 15, 1922. He was the son of William Donaldson and Mary Ann Cleary Donaldson. John was a retired Paper Handler for the NY Daily News. John was a loving father, grandfather and uncle who enjoyed life. He also liked poetry, music, food and a good bartender. He was a World War II Naval Veteran, a member of the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Lourdes Council 5890 of Washingtonville he was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks club in Lynbrook, NY, Sons of Italy of Rosedale, NY, the Blue and Gold Seniors and the VFW post 8691 of Washingtonville, NY.

John is survived by his children: Mary and her husband, Michael Contreras of New Town, PA, John and his wife, Nancy Donaldson of Washingtonville, NY, Jean and her husband, William Rodman of Suffern, NY, Michael Donaldson and Rego Dominquez of NYC, NY, and Margaret and her husband, Kenneth Andry of Washingtonville, NY; a sister, Bernadette and her husband, Robert Gleichenhaus of Mt. Vernon, ME; grandchildren: Matthew, Mike, Kate, Mazie, Alex, Christina and Elizabeth, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Donaldson and his second wife, Beatrice Banks also by his grandson, Thomas Donaldson, one brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be held on Friday October 7 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North St., Washingtonville, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday October 8 at St. Mary’s Church in Washingtonville. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VFW Post 8691 of Washingtonville.
