

Joseph Mazzocchi, a 28-year resident of Orange County, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on January 9th, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was 64 years old. Joseph was born on November 5th, 1950, in New York, New York. After graduating High School, Joseph joined the United Cement Masons’ Union local 780, the organization to which he devoted the entirety of his professional life. During his 41 years as a member of local 780, Joseph was elected to numerous positions of leadership including the Executive Board from 1994 to 2001, and Vice President from 2001 to 2007. His life’s work can be found above, below and around us in New York City and beyond. In his first supervisory role he directed the cement construction of the Ramsay’s Hilton in Cairo, Egypt, which, at the time, was the tallest building in the country. In 1999, Joseph became a Cement Mason’s Foreman in Charge in New York City, a position he held for 15 years. As a Foreman in Charge, Joseph supervised the construction of numerous buildings throughout New York City including 7 World Trade Center, the AOL Time Warner Building at 10 Columbus Circle, and the Manhattan School of Music. In 2007, Joseph founded his own self-leveling company, which grew into a successful business. He was still actively engaged in the operations of the business at the time of his passing. Successful professionally, Joseph was also a dedicated member of the Orange County community. He volunteered with St. Mary’s bingo for basketball; he restored and erected the Holy Trinity statues in Saint Mary’s cemetery, and he emplaced the cement floor in the Gazebo at Thomas Bull Memorial Park. Joseph, a loving father, and devoted husband, is survived by his wife of 36 years, Arline Mazzocchi; his son, Captain Joseph T. Mazzocchi, a graduate student at Columbia University and incoming faculty at the United States Military Academy at West Point; his daughter, Angela M. Mazzocchi, a Physicians Assistant in the Lung Transplant Division at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital; his mother Rose Bertuzzi, and many other loving friends and family.
May he forever rest in peace in God’s loving arms. His family is deeply thankful for his love, devotion, and commitment. He will be missed by his family and all he touched, and he will forever be in their hearts.
