Karen France Johnson, a curious and adventurous spirit, left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew her. As a military brat, she developed a unique perspective on the world, living on two continents.
A 1979 graduate of Washingtonville, NY high school Karen earned a Master's degree in biology from the State University of New York college at New Paltz. Her academic interests spanned multiple fields, including geology, physics, and atmospheric science, reflecting her insatiable curiosity and passion for discovery. Her wit and humor often caught people off guard. Karen's had mischievous streak and left those close to her in stitches.
Karen is survived by her loving partner of 35 years, James Dietrich, who was blessed to have Karen as his rock, confidant, and best friend. When he needed advice, he turned to her for answers. She was incredibly strong, immensely intelligent, and the most loving person anyone could have known. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. She is also survived by her brother Pierre, her sister Nadine, and her mother Renee.
Karen was preceded in death by her brothers Harold and Patrick, who will be deeply missed by those who loved them.
Throughout her life, Karen's love for learning and exploration drove her to pursue her passions with enthusiasm and dedication. Her family, friends, and colleagues were fortunate to have known her, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of sharing her life.
As we celebrate Karen's life, we also ask that you consider her final wish: to bring joy and comfort to those who need it most. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a local cat rescue organization in Karen's name. Her love for animals was unwavering, and she would be delighted to know that her memory is being used to make a difference in the lives of furry friends in need.
