Mary Vinciguerra

Mary Amante Vinciguerra, 91, of Washingtonville, a lifetime resident of the area, passed away on April 22, 2011 at Elant Nursing Home in Newburgh. The daughter of the late Fortunato and Josephine Yanello (Iannello) Amante, she was born December 3, 1919 in N.Y.C.

Mary married Joseph Vinciguerra on August 15, 1960; he predeceased her in 1992 after 32 years of marriage.

She was employed as a Manager for New York Telephone Company in Manhattan for 20 years. Mary was quite the artist, and sculptor. She was everyone’s favorite Aunt.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Sara Amante Scamporino in 2008 and Frances Amante Santucci in 2009; her brothers: Stellario Amante in 1916, John Amante in 1924, Anthony Amante in 1997, Salvatore Amante in 1999, and Walter Amante in 2010; sisters-in-law: Gloria Famular Amante in 1968, Frances Artuso Amante in 2004, Jean Amante in 2008; brothers-in-law, Profetto Santucci in 1971, and Joseph Scamporino in 1997. Survivors include her nieces: Josephine Amante DeLuca and her husband, Vincent, of Chester, Phyllis Santucci Hubbard and her husband, Don of Chester, Theresa Amante Ponessa of Newburgh, Anne Marie Scamporino Basile of Ramsey, NJ, Joy Santucci Low of Cuddebackville, Francine Amante Carmody and her husband, J. Patrick of Woodstock, Barbara Santucci Herrmann and her husband, Thomas of Circleville, Joanne Amante of Marlton, NJ, Mary Amante Gordon and her husband, Richard of Highland Mills, and Lorraine Amante of New Windsor; her nephews: John Amante and his wife, Delicia of Goshen, Salvatore Scamporino and wife, Kerry of Toms River, NJ, Salvatore Amante and his wife, Jean of Chester, Walter Amante of Allentown, PA, and Thomas Amante of New Windsor; 28 grand nieces and nephews, 38 great grand nieces and nephews; 8 great great grand nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

Visitation and services will be held at David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North St., Washingtonville, on Wednesday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Graveside Services will be held at St. Columba Cemetery in Chester immediately following the visitation.
