

Nellie M. Walpole, a resident of Rock Tavern, NY, passed away on July 1st, surrounded by her beloved family. She was 68 years young. Nellie was a daughter, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, an aunt, and a friend. Even more, she was one of a kind. Nellie broke the mold when she came to this Earth.
Predeceased by her father, Salvatore Sanchez, her mother, Maria Sanchez, her younger brother, Ruben Sanchez, and her adored pitbull, Kylee. Nellie is survived by her loving and devoted husband William Walpole, to whom she was married for 40 years, and her three children, Debbie Herman (Robert Herman), Jason Del Toro, and Stephanie Walpole (Corrine Petrushonis).
Nellie is also survived by her four beloved grandchildren, James Herman, Devyn and Jaxson Del Toro, and Sebastián Walpole, as well as her brother Johnny Sanchez (Trish Sanchez), her nieces, Frances Sanchez and Christine Sanchez, and her nephew, Ruben Sanchez.
Nellie was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York on December 18th, 1955 and she was a graduate of William Maxwell High School. Nellie later became a Matron in the New York City Police Department in 112 PCT, and then a New York City Corrections Officer, working at Rikers Island, Queens Detention Center, and Brooklyn Detention Center where she met her husband, William (it was love at first touch of Billy’s hair). She resigned from corrections after giving birth to her second child.
Nellie and her husband moved from New York City to Orange County, New York where they raised their three children in the beautiful Hudson Valley. Nellie later worked for the NYS Thruway before transitioning to a more fulfilling career. Nellie treasured her time working as a Direct Support Professional at Hudson Valley DDSO and caring for adults with disabilities.
Nellie was an avid reader and enjoyed socializing with her friends. She loved practicing shooting at the range with her husband and family. Nellie enjoyed past trips to see family in Puerto Rico and cherished taking her children and grandchildren to Disney World. She was a Dancing Queen and deeply loved her grandchildren. Nellie was the life of every party she attended and was always joking around to make others laugh. She expressed her love loudly and beamed with pride whenever she was around her family.
Nellie was a generous and selfless soul, who loved unconditionally, and would give you her last dollar if you needed it, no questions asked.
A visitation for Nellie will be held Friday, July 12, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at David T Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, NY 10992. A mass of christian burial will occur Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St Mary's Church, 42 Goshen Ave, Washingtonville, New York 10992. A burial will occur Saturday, July 13, 2024 at St Mary's Cemetery, 2 Fr Tierney Circle, Washingtonville, New York 10992.
