

Sam was born on September 9, 1948, the son of Samuel L. Quimby, Sr. and Dorothy H. (Brewster) Quimby. He was a 1967 graduate of Washingtonville High School where he excelled in baseball, basketball, soccer and track. He led each sport in which he participated to championships at Washingtonville. When asked, he took one day off from baseball practice to participate in the county championship track and field events at West Point, where in 1967 he won the half-mile event. Also in that year, after winning the league, county and sectional championships in basketball, he was named the Times-Herald Record player of the year.
Sam was well-liked and respected friend to the athletic and educational community throughout the county for his entire life. He was a Navy Veteran and graduated from Orange County Community College and the University of Southern Connecticut. He taught courses at OCCC and Physical Education in the Middletown School District for 33 years. Most of all Sam was a loved and very proud grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Billie Jean (Conklin) Quimby. He is survived by his beloved sons, Cory Dale Quimby, and his wife Kate (Wiegard) and Chad Dragone and his wife Korey; loving brother and sisters, Jan Philip Quimby and his wife Nancy (Brandenburg), Cheri E Quimby and Tami B. (Edmond) Quimby. His cherished grandchildren, Charlee, Miles, Maisyn, Chad, Brooke and Paislee and his caring nephews and nieces, Christopher and Jonathan Quimby and Elizabeth and Danielle, also survive him.
Sam had a special regards for lifelong friends, notably Joseph Fornera of Otisville, Rick Brown of Middletown and John Castlegrande of Huntington, WV.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 2-6 pm at the David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North St., Washingtonville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sam’s name should be made to the Washingtonville Little League, 7 Depot St., Washingtonville, NY 10992
