

She was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts on June 19, 1929 a daughter of the late Ralph and Alice (Woodworth) Whitney. She attended local Massachusetts schools and attended Fitchburg State Teacher’s College. Lois was, first and foremost, a homemaker, moving to Waterville in 1954 and later Oakland, where she raised her family.
In her later years, Lois, served as a Librarian at the Waterville Junior High School. She was fond of animals especially cats and dogs, he favorite being Mindy. She also was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing at Waterville Country Club where she served as President of the Ladies Association. She liked playing bridge with her friends and in later years crossword puzzles.
Lois is survived by her two sons; Lawrence Swift and wife Liping, Jeffrey Swift and wife Betty, grandchildren; Christopherand wife Gari-Lynn, Andrea, Charles, Phillip, William, Jason wife Melia and Jonathan Swift, a great grandson, Gunnar Swift, and a special friend Glen.
Lois was predeceased by her husband Charles Stevens, Joanne Swift, Susan Swift, Michael Swift and Marjorie Converse.
Visitation will be held at the Veilleux Funeral Home 8 Elm St, Watervile on Friday June 1, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A funeral will be held at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 7 Eustis Parkway, Waterville, Maine on Saturday June 2 at 11:00 am followed by inurnment at Lakeview Cemetery in Oakland. Donations in Lois’ memory may be made to the Humane Society Waterville Area, 100 Webb Road, Waterville, Maine 04901.
