1931-2010
Winslow – Raymond E. Simpson, 78, also known by his family and friends as Sam or Chip, died peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday, November 7, 2010, at Maine General Medical Center in Waterville, after a brief illness.
He was born December 31, 1931, in Waterville, Maine. He was the son of the late Lafayette Simpson and Laura Brooks. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Germaine H. Rancourt and his daughter, Diane L. Simpson.
He attended Waterville schools and was employed most of his life at the Wyandotte Woolen Mills, Waterville. After leaving the Wyandotte, he continued his career as a Custodian for the Winslow Public Schools for 10 years. He enjoyed the students, and wonderful faculty, where many cherished friendships were made. He ended his working career at Sam’s Club in Augusta in 2008. Up until his death, he frequently visited friends he made while employed at both Sam’s Club and the Winslow Public Schools.
He especially loved being with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was their number one fan. He was a devoted, loving, supportive father and grandfather and took much pride in his family. He loved to cook, play cribbage, visit close friends, and attend family events.
He is survived by his five sons and two daughters, Norman Simpson of San Francisco, California; Reginald Simpson, and his wife, Shelly of Waterville; Arthur Simpson, and his wife, Patricia of Albion; Susan Witham and her husband, Michael of Winslow; Daniel Simpson and his wife, Sue Ann of Fairfield; Nancy Roderigue, and her husband, Richard, of Waterville, and David Simpson and his wife, Amy, of Londonderry, NH.
