   Like many of you, I also have great memories of Uncle Steve. As a small boy, I remember always going to the Thanksgiving dinners at meme’s home, the get – togethers at Steve’s camp, or at his home and the other family reunions with mom’s side of the family. Uncle Steve never missed a one. He was always there to tease you, throw you in the lake or pool, ask about how things were going, make you laugh, and give you a big hug (and make sure he rubbed your face with that big hairy mustache). He loved his family, and it didn’t matter how often you saw him. He made everyone feel special. 
   After high school, I moved to Vermont to go to school and seldom came back to Maine. After living there for about 8 years, I moved 10,000 miles away to China. One day I got a call from Uncle Steve saying he was in the neighborhood visiting a factory, and at the same time, China was about to celebrate the Chinese New Year. He said the factory was having a big dinner and he was the guest of honor and wanted my wife and I to join. We all arrived together, long red carpet that ran up to the car door, and 20 photographers taking our picture when we got out. Felt more like Hollywood. After dinner I took him to a bar I was working in, and we drank some snake wine (picture a 5 gallon bottle filled with Chinese herbs, rice wine, and cobras). Should have seen his face, haha.
   The last time I saw Uncle Steve, I had come back to Maine with my 2 year old daughter and wife for what was to be the last get together at his home. I am so happy that my family as well as I got to be a part of that. The food, the games, throwing the kids in the pool, the laughs, the traditional family photos, and the hugs.... just a wonderful time. The pictures of that day have been on my fridge since I got back, and are still there.

We love you, and you will be missed Uncle Steve.

When I first met Steve I had married his sister, Linda. Steve would have been about fifteen years old so we didn't bond per say. But as the years went by and we got to talk at the many King family Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, we started to share many interest, and started to make plans to see each other more. When Steve was in the service he would come up to Pittsfield to visit us and we would have a great time partying and sharing stories of his service life while I shared mine as a family guy. Steve was in his twenties but was already into enjoying family and was looking forward to his own. Unusual for a young guy I felt. He turned out to be one of the best family men I have ever known. He was very supportive of my attempt to deal with my own issues when I would visit and enjoy the holidays at his home. He once told me, "I admire you for keeping your family together, you have done a helliva job". Steve had his own ideas of what he wanted in life and he was determined to make that happen. That love of family just grew with Steve in age. I will miss Steve. We didn't have the time to spend together for we grew apart in seperate ways for our families, job, and livestyle. I will always remember him for his eagerness to get the family together every year and to make sure everyone had a good time while sharing and enjoying the family togetherness he so enjoyed. My love goes out to the entire King family for their loss.

To the Family (Aunt Jan, Uncle Mike, Mom, Alice, Jody, Corey - and Meme) - please accept my deepest regret for your loss. 

When I heard the news about Uncle Steve it saddened me greatly.  Growing up as a kid I remember many great times with Steve and the family.  Family gatherings for the holidays, special occassions, etc.  After moving to Vermont and starting a family of my own, my trips back to Maine have been few and far between.  My family did get a chance to visit at Steves house and catch up while we were vacationing at camp a few years back.  It was nice to see the family again, catch up on old times and see some new faces.  It was also nice to see some familiar faces - one of which was Steves.  He was always the kind of guy that I could share a discussion about life experiences with (work, family, etc).  I will never forget a favor Steve once did for me (and my friends).  We had come home from college and desperately needed a job in order to make enough money to return in the Fall.  Steve set us up with a job in the New Balance factory in Norridgewock.  We had to drive a half hour each way, the pay was not very good and our job was literally to "shave" 10,000 pairs of shoes they had mis-colored - and then magic marker over them with the right color - but it was a job.  LOL - It was a job we needed badly and he pulled thru for us to set it up.  For that, I thank Steve - not only for the job, but for the many many times I have told that story to others - and that it was my Uncle that made it happen for me.  

Thanks Steve - we will love and miss you.

RIP Steve :( my prays go out to the family.I am sorry I did not make the furneral.

Living down south I havent lived home since 1981 except for a yr at my moms 2000-2001. Steve Was my cousin.His father and my father were brothers they lived 3 houses down from us on canabas ave.We used to have Family Dinners and things once a week or so...I was just a little guy (4yrs.younger) then as we all were but i remember the neighborhood games ,jumping trains outback ,playing fox and hounds wth the Aucoin`s Blakeslee`s,Burgess`s,Collettes,Gagnons,Douins,..i cant name em all...and the fishing & hunting trips we took with our parents.Playing hockey on the old pond behind Mardens...Those were the good ole days. I havent seen Steven or talked with Janice ,Linda or Mike or my Father in over 20 yrs.Uncle lawrence passed my father passed and steve passed..all of them really loved the outdoors so i know up there in Heaven, Steve, Uncle Lawrence ,Uncle Jerome, My father and all our other lost relatives are blazing new trails and fishing in crystal clear waters. I LOVE YOU STEVE..See you on the other side and please tell my dad i`m sorry.

The Proulx Clan met Steve through our brother Danny. Dan and Steve were so close that you could call them brothers. Steve would even call our father, "Dad". Dad always said that he was like a son to him. On our many excursions to the Wilds of Maine to Hunt and Fish, Steve would have great fun telling us how "HE" was the favorite son and, of course, Dad would agree. Then, off we'd go on another great debate of the intellectuals of back woods lore. 

After listening to the great adventures of Steve and Dan, (I'm sure that there will be a book someday!) we were amazed that they made it out alive. They were like two little boys that just loved adventure and were oblivious (not exactly the word we used) to danger.

There is a saying that goes something like this; "Those that our hearts have loved can never be taken away!"

We will miss Steve terribly in the North Maine Woods!  Happy Trails to our friend!

My thoughts are with you during this difficult time

I grew up next to Steve and his family, my brother Larry Burgess was good friends with Steve. My deepest sympathy to the family during this extremely difficult time.

I lost my best friend in Steve. We shared most of our lives as very close friends...almost brothers...staying in touch through the years even when career moves separated us.
While we moved to Puerto Rico, Steve and Alice came to visit on multiple occasions. We(Brenda & I)would come back to Maine 2-3 times a year and always get together for some reason, usually to fish but not always. Sometimes we would just hang out and talk of past adventures or plan new ones.
  While we moved to Chicago, Steve and bother Mike came to visit on multiple occasions. Golf was the agenda but the "just hanging out and having a few laughs about the stupid things we had done" was the best part.
  
 Our friendship began in 1969 on a frozen swamp behind Marden's (their first store) on College Avenue. From that time on we became and remained best of friends. We shared the joys of each other's marriges, our children's births, our children's marriges, the arrival of our grandchildren and our career successes. We also shared the sorrows of family illness and losses.
  Steve was the adventurer in our friendship...I was the voice of reason (if we had one between us). We spent a great deal of our time together fishing , bird hunting, deer hunting and just having a good time. Steve's impromptu approach toward the outdoors was inspiring...at times a little annoying because he'd call and say "I'll be there in an hour, be ready!"...but still inspiring. 
We shared many trips to the great north woods of Maine on various fishing and hunting trips. Once we left the Golden Road something magical happened to Steve. He was at peace and at home with the serenity and tranquility of the outdoors often ignoring the dangers. I guess that department was my job but I didn't mind as I felt the same way about that area. We would go places others would not even dream of...nor would they have the nerve and courage to do so. The challenge of the adventure seemed to bring new life into Steve each and every time we made the journey. Some adventures we a little more than we bargained for but we always made in through. 
  We shared these times because I could alway trust Steve and he could always trust me. That trust was there from the very beginning and lasted to the very end.
  If any of you readers have the same relationnship Steve and I shared, please cherish it all! You never know when you will loose it.
 Good buy my friend. I'll miss you.

Steve was a very good friend to me and my husband Danny. They had been friends for years. i will miss the phone calls saying that you were on your way to go to Ross Lakes and Danny would jump into action to get ready. I will miss you tremoundsly.

So sorry to hear about the passing of your brother, Linda.  My sympathies to you and your family.

Steve was my cousin. We grew up together, 3 houses away...got into the usual childhood mischief.  Had the same friends...graduated from high school together and college at the same time.  We even shared a graduation cake.  I loved him.  He was my friend.  I have not seen him for a good 10 years having moved out of state, and I lost touch with him.  I am so sad and sorry about his passing.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.  Steve will always have a special place in my heart.

So sorry to hear of Steve's unexpected passing. Steve gave me a great opportunity when he hired me on his HR team at New Balance several years ago. I learned alot from his leadership skills and HR knowledge. My prayers go out to his family.

I first met Steve in 1969 when he and my brother became best friends.  He was always the life of the party, had a wicked sense of humour and lived his life with a "carpe diem" attitude.  May I express my sincere condolences to Steve's mother, children and grandchildren and, of course, to Danny.

I am so sorry to hear of Steves passing. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family at this difficult time. I remember Steve as a great guy having grown up with him on Canabas Avenue.
