

Chester (Chet) Scott Monroe, 35, of Texas and formerly of Fishersville passed away
Thursday, October 11, 2012 as the result of a helicopter accident.
He was born February 25, 1977 son of Gary D. Monroe of Fishersville and the late Theresa L. Monroe. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia L. Stevens and grandmother, Maxine D. Monroe and special uncle, Joe Lawhorn.
Chet attended Olivet Presbyterian Church. Chet served in the Bravo Company, 16th Engineer Battalion during the Bosnia-Herzegovina in support of Operation Joint Guard. He excelled during Operation Joint Endeavor and reached the position of Squad Leader. Chet never missed a chance to excel and became a helicopter pilot and flight instructor after his discharge in 2001. He had a great passion for flyng.
In addition to his father and his father’s friend, Jo Ann Hewitt, he is survived by his brother, J. Travis Monroe of Fishersville and Jo Ann’s son, Travis H. Hewitt and his friend Sherry Sheets of Stuarts Draft, his grandfather, L. Chester Monroe of Fishersville, his aunt Diane Layman and her husband Douglas (Doug) of Fishersville, his uncle, Robert (Bobby) Monroe and his wife Cathy of Lynchburg, his aunts, JoAnn Newcomb of Bedford, Rosalie Leitch of Richmond, Mary Wheeler of Waynesboro, Martha Palmer of South Carolina and Nadine Lawhorne of Brownsburg. He is also survived by many special cousins, Tricia Calamos, Robyn Brandes, Amy Thorne and her husband Matt, Danielle Coffey and her husband Derick, Dale, Tony and Susan Wheeler, C.J. Palmer, Leslie, Kirk and Lisa Lawhorne, special nieces and nephews Meghan Kennon, Kristin Calamos, Jonah and Kayla Brandes, Travis Hewitt, II, Justin, Katie and Casey Stevens. He is also survived by his extended family at Veracity Aviation of New Braunfels, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro.
A service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2012 in the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Randy Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. American Legion Post 340 will conduct military rites at the cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ben Cash, Ben Thomas, Jacob Berry, Josh Cash, Derrick Smith, John Maginant, Mike Hoser, and Travis Brady.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends of Veracity Aviation , Erik Kessler, Rick Nelley, nieces and nephews.
