

Mrs. Schleicher was born on September 17, 1930 in Afton, and was a daughter of the late Minor Ernest Cook and Zeta (Lewis) Cook Vess and husband Virgil Vess. Edith volunteered, sang in the choir and actively attended Crozet Baptist Church, Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, and Main Street United Methodist Church. She worked for DuPont for many years. She later worked in sales for JCPenney and the Fashion Gallery. Edith volunteered with many organizations, especially Gideon’s International and the Hospice of the Shenandoah. She was devoted to others, and gave her time to helping.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kurt Walter Schleicher, on October 5, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Robert A Maupin.
Edith is survived by her children, Robbie Maupin and wife Donna of Charlottesville, Jimmy Crummett of Mt. Sidney, Bethel Crummett of Monterey, David Crummett and wife Carmen of Mt. Sidney; stepchildren, Bruce Schleicher, Brenda Kiernan, Cynthia Mikesell; siblings, Roxy Fox of Martinsville, Laferne Harris and husband Ralph of Stuarts Draft, Bobby Vess and wife Bunky of Crozet; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her former husband, James “Gibby” Crummett and a caring nephew, Kurt Schleicher.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Schleicher was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa Crummett; and her siblings, Lynwood, Billy, Edna, Jean, Boots, and Marvin.
The family would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to all who cared for her and allowed her to stay at home for as long as possible. The family would also like to extend a special THANK YOU to the staff of Shenandoah Nursing Home for their loving care during her stay and Interim Healthcare who cared for her at home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday March 4, 2022 at 2pm at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, 160 Mount Pisgah Road, Mt. Sidney, VA 24467, with Pastor Ed Pruett officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
