He was born on November 3, 1922, a son of the late Boyd W., Sr., and Nora (Dunn) Thompson.
Francis faithfully served his country in the United States Army Air Force, retired from DuPont of Waynesboro and was a member of West Waynesboro Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Boyd W., Jr and his wife, Rose Thompson.
Survivors include his wife, Edith (Fitzgerald) Thompson; a son, Larry Thompson and wife, Lisa; daughter, Francine “Cindy” Simpson and husband, George; grandchildren, Adam Thompson, Jay Thompson, Denise Simpson and Doug Simpson.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2019 at Augusta Memorial Park with Phil Forehand officiating. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 340.
Following the graveside service, a memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at West Waynesboro Church of Christ, 2212 Cortland St, Waynesboro, with Phil Forehand officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the fellowship hall of the church.
