Helena "Patsy" Saunders Shumate

She was born November 29, 1925 in Staunton, Virginia the daughter of the late Virginius A. and Frances Koiner Saunders.

She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Bible Study Group.

She enjoyed swimming and was a member of the Happy Ducks of the Waynesboro YMCA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Dallas Shumate, Jr., a son, David Shumate, a daughter, Rebecca Shumate and two sisters, Eleanor Flannagan and Virginia Parramore.

Survivors include a son, William Shumate of Stafford, two grandchildren, William Lee Shumate and Jennalee Ashby Shumate.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor Eric Childers. A private family interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 S. Wayne Ave., Waynesboro, Virginia 22980.
