

Born August 1, 1931 in Browns Cove, Va, he was a son of the late George Lee and Mittie Pearl McAllister.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen McAllister; daughter, Hallie Stone; daughter-in-law, Linda McAllister; son-in-law, Tom Trevillian; brother, Patrick McAllister; and sister, Mary Lee McAllister.
Herbert worked hard from a young age in local orchards and businesses. He married Helen on October 12, 1949, and they were married for almost 68 years. He often worked two jobs to support his family. He worked as a volunteer firefighter for the Crozet Fire Department. He was employed by Acme Visible Records for over 42 years. Herbert enjoyed cutting wood, making apple butter, and serving his family and friends by helping with many different tasks.
He is survived by his children, Herbert McAllister, Jr., (Brenda) of Wendell, NC; Roger McAllister (Norman McCauley) of Staunton; Melvin McAllister of Crozet; Ann McCune (Mike) of Fishersville; Danny McAllister (Donna) of Afton; son-in-law, Raymond Stone of Dillwyn; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother, Norman McAllister; and a sister, Joyce Hatchett.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021 at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Nickell officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Moriah United Methodist Church Cemetery.
