John Vincent Lupis

John was born on July 16th, 1937, in Piedmont, WV, the son of the late John L. and Elizabeth R. (McBee) Lupis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda L. (Stanhagen) Lupis and sister, Carole F. (Lupis) Athey.

John graduated from Piedmont High School and attended West Virginia University where he received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. While attending college, he met the love of his life, Linda Stanhagen, of Keyser, WV. They were married on September 10th, 1960. John accepted a job with the U.S. Forest Service and his career took them to numerous assignments across the U.S. where they met many wonderful people and made many lasting friendships. Among his numerous positions, John was especially proud to be the first Director of the Ojibway Job Corps Center in Marenisco, Michigan, and the Supervisor of the Dixie National Forest in Cedar City, Utah. He retired in 1995 as the Director of Engineering for the Intermountain Region of the Forest Service.

John's appreciation of the outdoors began long before joining the Forest Service. Growing up in the small community of Piedmont, he spent many hours enjoying the mountains and rivers of the state, including at "Hickory Hollow Camp." However, John's greatest devotion was to his family. He and Linda were happily married for sixty-four years and raised two children. Special memories included trips with his father and with Linda to rediscover his family roots in Italy.

John is survived by his son, Jeff Lupis of Basye, VA; daughter, Lisa Eye and husband Richard of Staunton, VA; sister, Teresa Savage and husband James of Pearisburg, VA; grandson, Christopher Eye of Staunton, VA; and granddaughter, Megan Eye of Tacoma, WA.

Rest in peace John. The sadness of parting is nothing to the joy when we meet again.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
