

Born on January 27, 1947, he was the son of the late Joseph G. Potter and Edna Lee Potter.
He dedicated many years to Wilson Trucking and more than two decades to the Augusta County Service Authority before retiring.
He was a member of ClearView Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the safety team. He was an avid NASCAR fan, University of Virginia Cavalier fan, enjoyed going to shooting matches, and was a long-time member of Petie Coffey’s pit crew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Potter.
Survivors include his wife, Linda (Fisher) Potter of Stuarts Draft; sister, Jo Carole Potter of Staunton; daughters, Tammy McGurn and her husband Don of Staunton and Kimberly Griffith and her husband Jeff of Stuarts Draft; a son Michael Potter and his special friend Laura of Bridgewater; granddaughter, Meagan Wilson of Roanoke; granddaughter, Brittani Showers and husband, Marty of Stuarts Draft; grandson, D.W. Spears of Waynesboro; granddaughter, Allison Cale and husband, Tyler of Grottoes; grandson, John Michael Potter of Grottoes; great-grandchildren, Logan, Melody and one to be born.
He also leaves a number of nieces, nephews and special friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes by his son-in-law, Jeff Griffith, Pastor Danny Fisher and Pastor John Hamric officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be family and friends attending the service.
A private moment for the family will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on the day of the service. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Shenandoah.
