

Joseph Gerald Via, 85, of Waynesboro passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Augusta County on August 2, 1932, a son of the late Hiram Thomas and Bertha Viola (Bryan) Via.
Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He worked for Valley Building Supply until retirement after 50 years of service. Joseph was a former member of Shenandoah Baptist Church. Fishing and spending time with his family, friends and dogs were a few of his favorite hobbies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita (Clark) Via; son, Jerold Wayne Via; eight siblings and his beloved dog, Cheyanne.
Survivors include his children, Jody Via, Michael Dewayne Via and Cathy Castle; siblings, Granville Via and wife, Betty Jean, Edgar A. Via and Fay Via; numerous grand and great-grandchildren; as well as a number of extended family and friends. Joseph also leaves behind his four legged friend, Marley Ann.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Larry Strickler officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
