Joyce was born in Augusta County to Earl Ray Matheny Sr. and Virginia Gray Matheny on July 4, 1941.
She married the late Edward Lee Bowles on October 24, 1959.
After Graduating from Albemarle High she went to work at General Electric/Genicom for several years until taking an early retirement to enjoy crafts, hobbies and mostly her grandchildren. Joyce loved to travel, camp and boating with her family.
Survivors include her three children, Mark Bowles, Ronda Early and Troy Bowles; sons-in-law, Roderick Early and Darko Panjol; daughter-in-law, Robin Dingman; grandchildren, Ashley Stevens, Aimee Gajus, Travis Bowles and Derek Bowles; great-grandchildren, Starlyn Gajus and Willow Stevens; brother Robert Matheny of Afton.
A graveside service will be conducted at Augusta Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 4, 2021 with Pastor Terry Kent officiating.
There will be no public viewing at the funeral home.
