

Born November 19, 1939 in West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Melvin W. and Nellie G. (Taylor) Osborne. She moved to the Waynesboro area in the early 1970’s following her sister. She worked at Crompton where she met and fell in love with Glenn W. Thompson, Sr. and they were married in April 1974.
Prior to retirement, she was employed by Rio Distribution where she worked as a secretary for many years. Mary was a member of Valley Covenant Church of God, Waynesboro, and was saved in October 1951. She was a woman of deep faith and read a daily devotional every day. Mary was a talented singer and for many years sang with the Bethel Singers. She greatly enjoyed yard sales, reading, jigsaw puzzles, word searches, and talking with people who soon became friends. Her family will remember Sunday dinners and how she loved the holidays, especially Christmas. Her K-9 companions, Dusty and Lucy, were her world and will miss her most.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn W. Thompson, Sr.; stepson, Ray D. Thompson; four brothers, Melvin W. Osborne, Samuel A. Osborne, David L. Osborne, and John T. Osborne; and five sisters, Edith G. Snider, Daphne McCullum, Patsy Marie Osborne, Clara O. Atwell, and Gayle L. Jackson.
Survivors include three stepsons, Glenn W. Thompson, Jr. of Waynesboro, Gary L. Thompson and wife, Brenda, of Grottoes, and Guy F. Thompson and wife, Kim, of Crimora; grandchildren, Tammy, Gary Lee, Penny, Teresa, Jennifer, and Heather; great-grandchildren, Philip, Sierra, Anthony, Lee, Tanessa, Peyton, Lydia, Isa, and Noah; devoted caregiver, Nita Dagenhart; brother, Glenn D. Osborne and wife, Rose, of Marion, VA; sister, Nellie N. Battaglia of Marion, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro.
Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Steele and Pastor Glenn Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Crimora.
Active pallbearers will be Jeff Wampler, Jeff Morris, Kevin Dodson, Danny Tampa, Will McCray, and Kevin Shifflett.
The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to the staff of Waynesboro Manor, the doctors and nurses of the Shenandoah Hospice House, and Hospice of the Shenandoah for their love, care, and support of Mary.
