

Roger L. Burnett, 83, of Waynesboro passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 at Augusta Health. Born in Crimora on April 20, 1932, a son of the late Hannah Pearl Fretwell and Melton Raymond “Buck” Burnett.
Roger was a graduate of Waynesboro High School Class of 1951, and is a member of the Little Giants Hall of Fame. He proudly served our country for four years in the United States Navy. Roger worked for Sperry Marine in Charlottesville as a welder for 38 years. Roger was known by his co-workers and friends as “Honest Rog”. After his retirement, Roger focused full time on taking care of his bride, Mary Ann. In his spare time, he greatly enjoyed hunting and was an avid sports fan. Some of his favorite teams were the Little Giants, Cavaliers, Redskins and the Yankees. Roger was a jokester and always seemed to find the humor in life. Roger had a big heart and loved and cared for everyone he met. He was a family man, a loving husband, father, granddad and great grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Scot Brown and step granddaughter, Beth Moore. Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Ann; a son, David Burnett and his wife, Sherry; two daughters, Tana Moore and her husband, Billy, and Kelly Shifflett and her husband, David; grandchildren, Jason, Chris, Levi, Matt, Lindsey, and Hannah; step grandchildren, Jake and Faith; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Jo Ann Worrell; sister in law, Nancy North of Ohio; as well as numerous other family members. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his friends, Dave Allen, Renick Proffitt and Roger’s four legged friend, Duke.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Riverview Cemetery with Rev. Levi Brown officiating. Military honors will be presented at the graveside by American Legion Post 340. Active Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes. The family has requested in honor of Rogers love of sports, please wear your favorite team jersey.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to everyone who loved, cared for and supported Roger and his family throughout the years.
