Born April 25, 1940 in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Smith Hammonds and Laurie (McCoy) Wilfong.
In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, fishing and working on cars.
Survivors include his wife, Frances McCoy; children, Elizabeth Cash and husband Scott of Waynesboro and Virgil Alston McCoy, Jr. of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Crystal, David, Cody, Austin, Michael and Nikki; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Zach, Caleb, Ethan and Brianna; brothers, Norman Wilfong of Hardy, VA and Willie Wilfong of West Virginia; sister, Mary Meador of Rocky Mount, VA; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday July 13, 2011 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main Street, with Pastor Matthew Coiner officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
