 Obituario de Weldon Wright Scrogham
Weldon Wright Scrogham, 82, of Waynesboro Va passed away on April 17th, 2021. He was born in Crimora, Va on April 5th, 1939 and was married to Phyllis (Turner) Scrogham. Weldon was the son of the late FW and Margaret Wright Scrogham and a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesboro. Weldon was the proprietor of G&W Motorwerkes, Ltd and built a successful business from humble beginnings in 1969. He was a Northeast Division SCCA champion race driver and noted worldwide expert in the Porsche brand, winning the Porsche Club of America’s top award for Concours restoration an unprecedented four times and serving as an honored judge at the Amelia Island and Pebble Beach Concours. He never met a stranger, and his favorite pastime was buying lunch for an unsuspecting patron at one of his favorite lunch spots. Known for his collection of special hats and easy smile, Weldon was a friend to many in the area. He truly cared about other people, and took time out of his day to help others even in the last days of his life. He believed you could accomplish anything you set your mind to, if you had enough self-discipline and respect for self and others. While serving in the US Army Corps of Engineers in Germany in the late 1950’s, Weldon saw his first Porsche and asked someone nearby, “What kind of car is that?” They responded “a Porsche,” and he knew he would own one someday. This chance meeting of the little-known German sports car would shape the rest of his life. He bought, restored and sold countless Porsche cars, specializing for many years in the Porsche Speedster. He likely has owned more Speedsters than any other person in the world! His love for the Porsche automobile was second only to his love for his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his first wife Katherine of 13 years and their three children, Cole, Carole and Cassie; Cole (Suanne) Scrogham’s three children Sydney (Joseph) McGow-Russell, Michael (Sierra) Scrogham and son Oliver, and Luke Scrogham, Carole (Adam) Saal’s two children Reed and Adaline, and Cassie (Darren) Estes daughter Breigh, a sister Janice (Garfield) Painter, a brother Gary (Linda) Scrogham and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins including one special niece Karissa. Family and friends may pay their respects and sign the guestbook from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes. A private graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Barrett Owen and Rev. John Ward. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville, Va at the following link: https://www.augustahealth.com/hospice/gifts-bequests, your favorite charity in his name, or “pay it forward” by buying someone’s lunch today.
