

Born April 3, 1931 in the Netherlands, she was the daughter of the late Gysbert Cornelis and Alida (Prive) Timmer.
Hennie and her husband were members of the Waynesboro Elks Lodge #2270 and greatly enjoyed spending their Friday evenings there with friends who became more like family. She had a great sense of humor and a competitive side as she loved playing cards and mahjong. She attended Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter H. Akers, Jr.; and brother, Pim Timmer.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Cynthia Spangler and her husband, Thomas, of Richmond, and Tamara Horning and her husband, Barry, of Chillicothe, Ohio; six step-grandchildren, Sara Beth Horning O'Rourke and her husband, Aaron, Jaimie Horning, Paul Horning, Hunter Spangler, Kemp Spangler, and Peyton Spangler; a number of step great-grandchildren; cousin, Robert Olofsen; brother-in-law, Wallace Brown Akers and his wife, Stephanie, of Purcellville; two nieces; and special friends, Tom and Reba Brothers and James and Susie Kitchens.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro with Chaplain David Wolfe and Pastor Paul Pingle officiating.
There will be no formal viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
