Born in Charlottesville, VA on December 7, 1933, the son of Richard Allison and Dorothy Gorden Gooch German. After his mother’s death, when Bill was three, he was raised in the loving care of Benjamin and Virginia Griffith and his brother Benjamin Griffith II, all of whom preceded him in death.
Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Army and United States Army Reserve.
He was employed by the General Electric Corporation and the Genicom Corporation. In retirement he worked part-time for the Virginia Department of the Deaf and Blind, as well as a game staff attendant for many years at the University of Virginia.
On December 25, 1954, Bill married Hazel Coffey of Fishersville, whom preceded him in death in 1998. In 2000 he married Eva Huggard, who passed away in 2009. Bill was extremely blessed to have experienced the loving companionship of both beautiful women.
Bill was an avid sports fan of both University of Virginia Cavaliers and the Baltimore Orioles. (Although if asked he would tell you that he “just didn’t take sports that seriously!”)
Surviving members of Bill’s immediate family include his sons, Scott German and wife, Stephanie of Waynesboro and Rodney German of Waynesboro; his beloved grandchildren, Andrew German, Elizabeth German and Courtney German. His extended family, whom he loved dearly, includes Connie and Raymond Depa, Larry and Bobbie Griffith, Benny Griffith, Margaret and Albert Cummings, Penny Friend, Dale Thompson, Thomas Lowery and the late Leona Kellett.
