

He was born March 4, 1918 in Augusta County, son of the late William Richard and Florence Mary Rowzie Humphries.
Mr. Humphries was a member of Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren, and retired from the Waynesboro DuPont Plant in 1980 after 38 years of service. He loved his family and enjoyed walking, helping others and working in the yard and garden.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-great-granddaughter, Ada Grace Dyson; 4 brothers, Elmer Richard Humphries, Harry Wade Humphries, Arthur Henry Humphries, Claude Franklin Humphries and 1 sister, Thelma Barnhart.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Norwood Via Humphries; three daughters and their sprouses, Fonda and Thornton Byram of Richmond, Betty and Alan Beaver of Waynesboro and Phyllis and Jack Moore of Waynesboro; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren with Pastor Galen Combs and Pastor Eugene Lenker officiating. Entombment will follow at the Augusta Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends at the residence and in the church fellowship hall following the committal service.
Active pallbearers will be Gordon and Paul Via, Daniel Rowzie, Billy Reed, Michael Ruckman and Ronnie Strickler.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Sunday School Class of Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren.
