Born March 6, 1940 in Smyth County, Va he was the son of the late William Edward and Margaret (Sims) Sims. On July 9, 1960 he married Elsie McCauley. The two shared 61 wonderful years of marriage.
Prior to retirement, Ken had been employed with the Whittaker Corporation where he worked for 20 years and later was employed by NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He was a member of the Waynesboro Moose Lodge #1309. As an avid outdoorsman, he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He liked spending time restoring cars and his most prized passion was his 66 Mustang. One of Kenny’s greatest joys was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in “the basement” during the holidays. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Joe Heffinger; and an infant sister.
Survivors include his loving wife, Elsie (McCauley) Sims; two sons, Steven Sims and wife, Dena of Waynesboro, and Mark Sims; grandchildren, Christopher Sims and wife, Victoria, Kristy Wilson and husband, Bill, Megan Bortz and husband, Eric, Danny Sims, and Travis Sims and wife, Jenn; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Braelyn Sims, Allison and Ryan Babral, Carson Bortz, and Tieghan Sims.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2021 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro.
Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Danny Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro.
Active pallbearers will be Christopher Sims, Travis Sims, Eric Bortz, Ryan Babral, Danny Sims, and Donnie Fisher.
