Ronald Clayton Chopyak died on the night of Wednesday September 6th 2017 at the age of 71. He left behind a heartbroken family and friends too numerous to count. They include his wife, Kathleen, his children, Stephen and Cari, his two grandsons, Jin and Wyatt, and his siblings, Sandra and James. He will be missed by all of them and many more.
It is wrong to try and summarize him in a few paragraphs of facts and dates, all tucked away in some small corner of the newspaper. He deserves more than that could tell. He was more than that could hold. So, instead, his family would like anyone that happens across these words to know that the world saw a good man, and now it has seen his passing.
Iron-willed, patient and dedicated he built a beautiful home and life for his family on a small farm in Ruff Creek; which will be his place of final rest. It is a sacred place now, this little hilltop in Pennsylvania. A place saturated by memories of Sunday morning pancakes drizzled with maple syrup, served to the raspy crooning of Bob Dylan, long walks over the hill with a pack of dogs at our heels, and passionate dinner table debates about the world and its future. The world and its future...which he struggled so hard to see bettered by his actions; not just as a father, but as a citizen and caretaker of his fellow man. There are few who take their role in the world so seriously, or who work so diligently to leave their mark on it. He lived his beliefs through his volunteer work with The Salvation Army, The DNC, Catnip Spay and neuter Clinic and delivering with Meals on Wheels. Previously he had served on the boards of the Greene County ARC and Habitat for Humanity. Through this living, volumes of wisdom were imparted. This wisdom was never written down, it was only witnessed. Those of us that carry it, know its worth and remember its source. We will do so always. Thank you for everything. We love you more than you know.
On his behalf, we ask this of any reader - Take account of those you love. Do it every day.
Interment will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday at 105 Edgar Hill Road, Waynesburg. Friends will also be received from 4 pm to 7 pm Monday, September 11, 2017, in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 W. High St., Waynesburg, followed by a memorial service. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army 131 W 1st St., Waynesburg, PA 15370.
