Arthur "Gene" Eugene Stewart

Arthur Eugene "Gene" Stewart, age 91, of Clyde, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Gene was born in Richmond, VA on October 30, 1929 to the late Art and Irene Stewart.

Gene served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired from International Playtex Corporation in 1992 and moved to the Crabtree community in 1993. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville. He was a longtime member of the Waynesville-Sunrise Rotary Club where he served one term as President. He was owner operator of High Country Signs. He and his wife enjoyed life together, traveling and being active in their church community.

In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his first born granddaughter, Angela Jean Agostini-Bartucca in 2018.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 70 years, Estelle C. Stewart; daughters, Cheryl Stewart Bartlett and husband, Roger and Sharon Stewart Agostini and husband, David; grandchildren, Steven (Jess) Agostini, Michael (Meghan) Agostini, Andrew (Rachel) Bartlett, Staff Sgt. Michelle Agostini, A.F., Shelley Bartlett (Seth) Stone; great grandchildren, Emma Jean Peterson, Layne Bartlett, Olivia Agostini, Lindy Bartlett, Christopher Agostini, Lucas Stone and great grandson due in October 2021, Liam.

Funeral services for Gene will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 29, 2021 in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince and Reverend Mitch Huskinson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church on Sunday from 1:00 to 1:45 PM.

Burial will be private.
