Bascom Leroy Wilkes

Bascom Leroy Wilkes, age 79, of Sylva, formerly of Darlington, SC, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023. Bascom was born in Florence, SC on September 12, 1943, to the late Colie Wilkes and Ruth Broach Wilkes Mack. Bascom enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking, playing his guitar, singing, but most of all he loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bascom was preceded in death by, his son, Jeffrey Wilkes; grandson, Dustin Wilkes; great-granddaughter, Alanna Wilkes; and brother, Otis Wilkes.

Bascom is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Judith Salyers Wilkes; six children, Victoria Wilkes, Anthony Wilkes (Glenda), Benny Wilkes (Maggie), Martin Wilkes (Tinesa), Gwendolyn Lance (Clifford), Eric Wilkes (Crystal); 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Young, Diane Orcutt, Lois Hudson; brother, Colie Wilkes; and numerous other family members.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 28, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Timothy Pressley and the Reverend Martin Pressley officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 - 11:00 am prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be a Graveside Service at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 29, at Darlington Memory Gardens. Belk Funeral Home will be handling arrangements in Darlington, SC.
