

Billie was born on March 4, 1938, in Asheville, to Ruth Calhoun Mooneyham Stanelli and Charles Mooneyham. She graduated from St. John's Catholic School in Waynesville and studied EEG technology at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta.
After many years of living in several different states and living abroad in Asia and Europe, Mrs. Cockman settled back "home" in western North Carolina.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, friendship, creativity and traditions that will live on through those that loved her and were blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Mooneyham, her mother, Ruth Stanelli and stepfather, Joe Stanelli and her sister, Paula Stanelli Davis.
She leaves behind her husband of 39 years, Dewey Cockman, brother, Oliver Mooneyham and sisters Annie Mooneyham and Becky Stanelli Plott.
She also leaves behind her three daughters and their husbands, Beth Atkinson Sistrunk (John), Robin Atkinson Cunningham (James) and Laura Atkinson Esposito (Brian). Her grandchildren, Alison Wilkey(Garrett), Ashley Nipp(Michael), Trey O'Neal(Brandi), Joey Cunningham, Jillian Cunningham, Gabby Esposito and Jacob Esposito, her great-grandchildren, Caroline, Pierce, Charlotte and Avery.
Visitation will be at Arden First Baptist Church, Arden, at noon Tuesday, Dec. 29 with funeral services at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please honor her life with a donation to Arden First Baptist's Nehemiah Fund.
