Hendersonville--Diana Menzi Szabo, 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2020. Diana was born in the Bronx, NY on October 14, 1922 to the late Paul Bologna and the late Enrica Marzi Menzi.
Diana had a lifelong love of the mountains. After living many years in suburban New York, Diana was particularly happy when she and Steve relocated to the beautiful mountains of North Carolina along with her sister Velia. She made many good friends and continued to pursue her activist efforts in support of various family and religious causes. Diana continued to speak and voice her opinions in many national and local newspapers and was most proud to receive an award from Billy Graham for her efforts. In addition to these activities and taking care of her sister Velia, Diana found time to be a great cook, take many excursions on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and to enjoy watching old movies and listening to classical music and opera. She loved visits with and entertaining her nieces and nephew over the years.
In addition to her parents, Diana was preceded in death by her husband, Steve J. Szabo; sisters Velia B. Menzi and Valda J. Ryan (Donald); brothers Eugene L. Menzi (Beatrice) and Richard Menzi (Gida); and beloved niece Noreen Menzi.
Diana is survived by many loving nieces and nephews: Julius Hagymassy (Cheryl); Susan Hagymassy Nanassy; Kathleen, Suzanne, Kenneth (Mary) and Linda Ryan; Linda Wiegand (Claude), Marjorie Menzi Heumann (William), Valerie Macari (Philip), Andrea Sica (Richard); Carole Anne Menzi Collier and Maria Menzi.
