Dorothy Brock Garrett

Waynesville, NC - Dorothy Brock Garrett, 92, went to be with The Lord on February 2, 2018 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was born in Haywood County on July 19, 1925 to the late Paul and Mae Cook Brock.

Dorothy and her husband, Wayne Garrett, together were owner's of Garrett's Greenhouse, the first commercial greenhouse, located in Haywood County. She enjoyed flowers, playing games, reading, crocheting, sewing, crossword puzzles and fixing things. She instilled the love for art, music and literature in her family. In her younger years, she sang with her brother, Jarvis on various radio programs. Most of all, she had a special love for her family as they did for her. She was also a member of Faith United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Wayne Garrett; by her three siblings, Rev. Jarvis Brock, Jeannine Brannen, and Dennis Brock.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Audrey (B.T.) Greene of Sylva, Douglas Garrett of Waynesville and Charles (Debbie) Garrett of Clyde. Dorothy had five Grandchildren, Kimberley (Martin) Mathis, and Heather (Tim) Mathis of Sylva, Kris Garrett, of Clyde, Matthew (Mindi) Garrett of Waynesville, and Jeremy (Jennifer) Garrett of Clyde, sixteen Great Grandchildren, two Great-Great Grandchildren and is survived by a brother in law Gene (Wanda) Garrett of Hendersonville and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Funeral services will be held at Garrett Funeral Home on Tuesday February 6, 2018 at 3:00pm. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 2:00 pm prior to the funeral and at other times at the residence.

Interment will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Park in Waynesville.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Faith United Methodist Church at 53 Hendrix Street, Waynesville, NC 28786, of which she was a member.
