Sylva-Edward “Ed” Charles Norman, 66 went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 16, 2019, after a long battle with cancer. Ed was born in Haywood County to the late Charles and Roberta Gentry Norman on August 12, 1953, and was a life-long resident of Jackson County. Ed was a logger at heart, but retired on disability from the Jackson County DOT. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Ed enjoyed traveling and gardening when he was able. He raised cattle and was a big NASCAR fan. Ed was a faithful member of Balsam Missionary Baptist Church.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Janet Queen Norman; son, Greg Norman (Natalie); sister, Nancy Keefer (Gene); grandchildren, Tanner and Lydia; adopted granddaughter, Kaitlyn Bell; several nieces and nephews; and his little four legged buddy, Clip.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on Thursday, November 21, at Balsam Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Cullen and Pastor Michael Queen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2 pm prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be made in Eddie’s name to Broyhill Children’s Home at 111 Sneed Dr., Clyde NC 28721 or to the Balsam Missionary Baptist Cemetery Fund, at PO Box 280, Balsam, NC 28707 or to the Cancer Society.
The family would like to offer a very special Thank You to their church family and to all the friends and family that helped out in their time of need and to the Palliative and Hospice Teams that came out to keep Ed comfortable.
The family would also like to acknowledge Pastor Greg Cullen and Bill Stepp for not only their friendship, but also their spiritual support during Ed’s illness.
