Rise and look around you
And you'll see who you are
On a clear day
How it will astound you
That the glow of your being
Outshines every star
You'll feel part of every mountain sea and shore
You can hear
From far and near
A word you've never, never heard before...
And on a clear day...On a clear day...
You can see forever...
And ever...
And ever...
And ever more. . .
(Lyrics by: Alan Jay Lerner/Performed by: Barbra Streisand)
On Sunday, April 11, 2021, a cool breeze blew out a shining candle in our lives.
Evelyn (Evie) Rudnitsky (nee Saxe, nee Jaffe), age 81, born April 7, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA, was reunited with her parents, and loving family and friends who made the journey before her; Our loss softened by this imagery.
A wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Evie was the glue that held the family together. In her inimitable style, her last evening was filled with the joy of wishing loved ones’ happy birthday from her hospital bed. She bonded with a love that transcended earthly bounds, a “Philly” connection made no matter where she may have been, her ability to stay connected with family and friends from her childhood, this will be her legacy.
Despite the miles, time zones and countries between us, Mom was always just a phone call away. She took care of everyone that came into her life and felt passionately about the injustices of the world. Her generous heart and thoughtfulness will be missed. The strength of her legacy will enable us to get through this together.
Evie’s life was filled with great accomplishment. At a young age, she sang on the stages of the Atlantic City boardwalk at Steel Pier and Million Dollar Pier. Her (and Dad’s - Mike) love of music filled us with so much joy and lifelong memories.
Mom (and Jerry’s) life overflowed with adventure and spirit. Be it from the aluminum hulled Striker Yachts, the kitchen of their Marina Deli, the seat of their powerful Goldwing Trike, Cloud 9, or in their RV, they made lifelong friends and memories everywhere. She truly “relished” the joy of feeding our lives with love, laughter and wonderful food.
No matter where she called home, moms was THE place for family gatherings and friends reuniting… Strays of the 2 and 4 legged variety always welcome, her many fur babies filled her life and heart with so much joy. Mom also had a spiritual bond with the earth and could always be found nurturing and tending to her garden.
Evie will be remembered and missed by those who loved her: Children: Scott (Robin) of Livingston, TX, Cherin (Kim) of Weaverville, NC, Adam (Tina) of Savannah, GA; Grandchildren: Audrey of Kyle, TX, Brody (Allysen) of Houston, TX; Great Granddaughter: Avery of Kyle TX; 'Sister': Judy (Art) Garcia of Lake Worth, FL; Her fur babies: Surry-Rose and Sophia Loren Rudnitsky; extended loving Saxe, Jaffe, Middleburg families and friends near and far. Pre-deceased by husband Jerold S. Rudnitsky, and ex-husband and father of her children Michael A. Saxe.
Out of respect for Moms wishes, and love and concern for the health of family and friends due to the pandemic, there will be no memorial service. A virtual Celebration of Life may be arranged at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, mom would want any donations made in her memory to go to Best Friends Animal Society, The American Heart Association, or to your favorite animal charity.
We love you Mom, rest in peace, your wings were ready but our hearts were not.
