

Waynesville-Floyd R. Vaughn, 88, of Waynesville, NC went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 16, after a prolonged illness. Mr. Vaughn was a World War II veteran having served in the Navy from 1943-1945. He served on the LSM 15 in the South Pacific. Mr. Vaughn was the recipient of the Silver Star and served his nation with honor. Mr. Vaughn was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship in Waynesville, NC. He retired from Container Corp of America and from the Nassau County Property Appraisers Office in Fernandira Beach, FL., where he and his family resided for 39 years before moving to Waynesville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice V. Jones; a grandson, Jason R. Vaughn; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Vaughn; and a brother, Theo Vaughn, Jr. Mr. Vaughn is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kathryn B. Vaughn; five children, Barbara Vaughn Smith (Robert), of Fernandina Beach, FL, Michael F. Vaughn (Hilda) of Waynesville, NC, Anthony R. Vaughn, of Westminster, SC, and Alex M. Vaughn of Waynesville, NC; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 20, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with Floyd Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military honors following the service. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, November 19, at the funeral home.
