Linda Gay (Russell) Mathews

Asheville-Linda Gay Russell Mathews, 69 entered into her Heavenly home on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Mission Hospital. Linda loved her family, country music and dancing. She had special friends at Compton Place in Asheville and her in-home aid Linda Jenkins.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Alvin "Shorty" Mathews; parents, Will and Jane Russell; siblings, Maxine Benge, Rob, Bud, and Jack Russell; and her grandson, DJ Gray.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Dianne Gray (Danny) of Waynesville, and Kay Justice (John) of Leicester; a son Billy Wayne Mathews (Melissa) of Danielsville, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

A memorial service celebrating Linda's life will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, February 27, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. A private inurnment will be held at Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4-5 PM prior to the service at the funeral home at other times at the home of Dianne and Danny.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses that took care of Linda at Mission Hospital and Carepartners.
