ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Marcia Ann Hilton Hoggard, 85, went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on February 16, 2018. Marcia has joined her husband, Thomas Vernon Hoggard, in heaven. They were married for 54 years.
Marcia suffered from Alzheimer’s disease the last 10 years of her life, but despite the disease she still laughed and enjoyed life on a daily basis. She had the blessing of living her last seven years at Arbor Terrace of Asheville, where the staff helped fill her days with joy and laughter and she made many friends.
Marcia was active in church throughout her life, teaching Sunday School for many years. While living in Florida she attended Spencer Memorial Baptist Church, Lake Carroll Baptist Church and Idlewild Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida, and First Baptist Church of Ft. Lauderdale in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. In Ft. Lauderdale, Marcia was an active behind-the-scenes member of the Ft. Lauderdale Christmas Pageant.
Marcia made wonderful lifelong friends throughout her life and laughing with them and enjoying adventures gave her great joy.
Following her husband Vernon’s retirement from the FBI, Marcia and Vernon traveled the world, visiting 52 countries. They also enjoyed playing with their granddaughter Abby when she was little and walking their beloved dachshunds.
Marcia was born December 3, 1932, in Cumberland, Maryland, to the late Marion Chase and George Hilton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Ronald Hilton.
Surviving is her daughter, Jan Hoggard Westmark, and granddaughter Abigail Westmark Davies and her husband, Joe Davies, along with Jan’s foster son who made Marcia laugh whenever they were together; son Jay Vernon Hoggard and wife Susie Hiatt Hoggard and grandsons Keane Hoggard and Luke Hoggard; and sister-in-law Michelle Carter Hilton.
Marcia will join her husband Vernon in Arlington Cemetery. The service will take place in the summer.
