

Waynesville-Martha Jean Birchfield, 69, died unexpectedly on March 13, 2015. Jean was born in Haywood County on February 3, 1946, to the Fred and Bessie Smith Rogers. Jean was an exceptional cook and caregiver for her family. She enjoyed reading, history, watching westerns, shopping at yard sales and cleaning her house. Jean was a strong believer and belonged to Life Church. Everything Jean did was for her family. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and James Pressley; a sister, Susie Holland; and two brothers-in-law, Charlie and Donald Birchfield. Jean is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Carroll Birchfield; two daughters, Rita Birchfield Bolin (Randy), Kelley Birchfield Paige (Wally); her son, Freddie Birchfield (Colleen); a brother, Roy Pressley (Winnie); two sisters, JoAnn Dills (Troy) and Nellie Jones; nine grandchildren, Whitney (Marc), Spencer, Evan, Chelsea, Ian, Mac, Gavin, Sully, and Noah; great-grandchild, Oakley; “Nana” to Kara and Michael Birchfield; special in-laws, Kathy and Pete Birchfield, Frank and Evelyn Birchfield, Squirrel Birchfield, Norma and Rick Kirby, Linda and Terry Warren, Betty Jean Birchfield and Betty Ann Birchfield; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 16, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Paul Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Sunday, March 15, at Garrett Funerals and Cremations.
