

Melvin Reeves Allen “Wonderful husband, father, and grandfather” Melvin Reeves Allen, 71, of Waynesville, NC passed away peacefully Thursday, May 12, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Haywood County on June 26, 1944. Melvin retired from Dayco Industries following 30 years of service. Some of his most cherished times were listening to Bluegrass music, riding motorcycles, and spending time with his family who he loved dearly. He also enjoyed going to Lake Chatuge and camping at Jack Rabbit Campground. He is preceded in death by his father, Reeves Allen; his beloved wife, Joyce Trull Allen; sisters, Sheila Rohrer, Francis Allen Thomson, infant brother, David Allen; and special friend, Betty Smith. Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Irene Trantham Allen of Waynesville; daughter, Vicki Allen of Waynesville; granddaughter, Alyssa Brook Sorrells of Waynesville; brothers, John (Mary Ellen) Allen of Waynesville, Robert “Bob” (Anna) Allen of Sylva, Albert (Judy) Allen of Waynesville, Bobby Gene Allen of Waynesville, and Gary (Connie) Allen of Waynesville; sisters, Mary (Ron) Shook of Waynesville and Linda (Carl) Reece of Waynesville. Funeral services for Melvin will be held at 2 PM Monday, May 16, 2016 in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home with the Reverend John Swanger, Reverend Tim Lolley and Reverend Brandon Allen officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Melvin’s brothers and his nephew, Brandon Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Rose and Highway 40 and Hill Country Band.
