William "Bill" Lee Burnett

William "Bill" Lee Burnett, age 91, of Waynesville, NC passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

A native of Blairsville, GA. Bill was one of twelve children of the late Thomas C. Burnett and Stella Bates Burnett. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Lee Burnett of Waynesville. Bill lived in Haywood County most of his life and was a retired welder. He served in the US Navy and retired from the US Air Force after twenty-two years of service. Bill served two tours in the Vietnam War. He was an avid outdoorsman. Bill loved to hunt whitetail deer, trout fishing, and "Roaming the Mountains" in his words.

Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Burnett; one daughter, Elaine Hilton of Chapin, SC; two sons, Steven Burnett of Sylva and Michael Burnett of Waynesville; three stepdaughters, Sue Hooper of Waynesville, Tracy Roe of Wisconsin, and Mary Hoffman of Illinois; one stepson, Mark Hill of Wisconsin; one brother, Charlie Burnett of South Carolina; one sister, Francis Lear of Canton; eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 17, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Dr. Bobby Rogers officiating. Bill will be inurned at Green Hill Cemetery with full military honors.
