Sally and family, we are so sorry for your loss of dear Chuck.  Paul's first teaching job was along with Chuck back in 1967.  Of all the people we have met since then - Chuck, and you Sally, have held a special place in our memories.  Chuck was an honest, caring and true friend. Good People like Chuck are hard to find.   We truly enjoyed the days we spent with the two of you & we will cherish them forever.  We know he is with God now.  May God be with you & your family and give you peace.

My daughter, Leah, was so in awe of this man. He was so kind and genuine.
He would find the quirkyness in kids and bring out their best. Leah LOVED him. In fact, he was spoke at her funeral eleven years ago.

Mr Yates was my art teacher at Steger when it was a junior high. "Uncle Chuck", as we called him behind his back, was a warm and encouraging instructor and was a major influence in directing me into my lifelong career in design. I owe a lot to him and am sorry his life was cut so short. My sympathies to his family and friends. Know that he was appreciated and will be missed.

Sheese,  Chuck never wasted time.  Who else could you talk about the attitude of dogs getting ready for the Iditarod 1000 mile race across Alaska?  Always wide awake.

I was so sorry to hear of Chuck's passing - much too soon.  I was also fortunate to work under his leadership during his last years at Rockwood South and am so grateful that he invited me to join the staff there, where I spent 20 years of my life in a wonderful career.  I, too, will always remember his constant doodling and still have a "perfect circle" and my name that he drew during one of our many parent meetings!  I will also remember what a good sport he was, taking a turn as the target in our Pie Throwing Booth during one of our first school carnivals!  He was such a deep thinker and had such a wide variety of interests in nature, art, and culture.  He truly found passion and joy in life and that is a gift!

Chuck was an intelligent and articulate man,and I will miss him very Much.

I first met Chuck when I was at summer school at Shaw Elementary school where mother also worked and he opened my eyes the  fun world art. I am now 54 years old and think of him often this time of the year because he was one the great volunteers I worked with on job conducting eagle days on The Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. I will look to the sky this January and watch the majestic birds and fly by and know his spirit will be soring along with them.

I had the distinct pleasure of several "discussions" in Mr Yates' vice principal's office at Eureka Senior High.   The man was honorable. Respectful and fair.  I particularity enjoyed his skill in throwing an exacto knife in his bulletin board.    I ,like many, are saddened by the loss of the man who was influential in my life.  I am a better person by knowing him.   My sincere condolences to his friends and family

Chuck was my first principal when I was a new teacher just out of college.  Warm-hearted and supportive, he welcomed me and encouraged me in my work in the classroom and in the community.  I am grateful for the way he cheered on creative efforts from teachers and students and taught me to look first at the child rather than the course content. He also saw us teachers as individual human beings and let us know he cared.  Chuck leaves an incredible legacy in the world of education. He will be missed.

This man was as good a person as I have ever known. He was the kind of teacher that every teacher should aspire to be. God bless you Mr. Yates.

My condolences to the family!  I was truly saddened  to hear the news of his passing.  I was fortunate to work under Mr. Yates his last year at Rockwood South Junior High. Chuck was an excellent administrator and leader.  His vision was clear and unswerving. "If it's good for kids, let's do it!" He had many other talents, not the least of which were his carvings and woodworking projects.  He loved his family, his work and his calling as an artist. So sorry to learn of Chuck's death. He was a friendly, exuberant man who will be missed.

I will always remember Chuck's friendly demeanor and his gift for telling stories.  He took me under his wing when I was a 23 year old - green as green can be - first year social studies teacher at Rockwood South Junior High School.  His advice and encouragement meant the world to me.  His love for his students and staff at Rockwood South was seen in both words and actions  Thirty years later, I'm still an educator in Rockwood due in part to Chuck's influence as my boss and as my friend.  Our loss is certainly Heaven's gain.  My deepest condolences to his family during this most difficult time.
