

Died October 31, 2014 at the age of 89. He was the dear son of Emma Viola Harting Stitt and Earl Bishop Stitt Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Earl Bishop Stitt Jr. and Robert William Stitt. He will be missed by his five children: Karen Joy Stitt Snodgrass, John Harting Stitt Jr. (Diane), Bonnie Sue Stitt Jannasch (Karl), David Thomas Stitt (Linda), Carolyn Ann Stitt Heffner (Donn); 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren with another due in November.
Jack, as he liked to be called, lived in St. Louis most of his life. He graduated from Principia High School in 1942 and entered Washington University as a U.S. Navy officer recruit.. He trained in the V-12 Unit at Central Methodist College in Fayette, MO and served on the USS Sargent Bay CVE 83 in the Pacific during WWII. He earned the WWII Victory Ribbon, the American area Campaign Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon. He attained the standing of Junior Division Officer CVE and was released honorably on March 6, 1945. He returned to Washington University and graduated with a BSBA degree in 1948. He retired as a Sales Manager from Graham Paper Company in 1990. For the past seven years he lived in Nashville, TN to be near family.
His family remembers him as a loving Father and Grandfather, proud to serve his country. He will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Central Methodist University, Fayette, MO or The Principia School, St. Louis.
