

Funeral services for Elton Paul Courville, 91, will be at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, January 6th from Our Lady of Seven Dolores Catholic Church in Welsh, Louisiana. The Rev. Archimandrite Herbert J. May, J.C.L. will officiate. Visitation will be from 4P.M. to 9 P.M. on Wednesday, January 5th at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh. The rosary will be recited at 7PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday at 9 AM until the time of the funeral service.
Elton Courville was born in Rayne, Louisiana to Edna Kilchrist Courville and Theophile Courville on February 11, 1919. He worked building ships in Orange, Texas during World War II. He moved to Welsh in 1946 where he was employed as a Foreman by LoLift Pump Company for 37 years. He was an active member of Our Lady of Seven Dolores Church where he served as an usher. In 2004, he received the “Devoted Service Medal” from the Diocese of Lake Charles on the occasion of the church’s centennial celebration. Upon his retirement, he devoted his time to his true vocation: gardening. One of his many joys was teaching others about growing various plants, especially tomatoes. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Evie LaBauve Courville and daughter Diana Faye Courville Ardoin. He was the last surviving sibling, as all his siblings preceded him in death to include: Eugene Courville, Josephine Smith, Maurice Courville, Valentine LeBlanc, Amanda Lantz, Agnes Menard, Theola Richard, Alma Newcomer, and Augustine Richard. Those left to cherish his memory are two sons, Travis Courville and wife Frances and Talbert Courville and Carolyn “Sue” Durio; fve grandchildren: Craig Courville and wife Ami, Kim Harubin and husband Joseph, Regina Cassilis, Sarah Johnson and husband David and Jamie Perkins and husband Brandon; six great grandchildren: Karen Cassilis, Jacob, Jordan and Jason Johnson, Avie Perkins and Joey Harubin.
His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, along with many nephews, nieces, friends and neighbors will always cherish the memories of his strength of character, incredible generosity, true courage in facing life’s challenges, astute wisdom and love and kindness toward all.
