Ernestine Marie Gerard Day was a blessing sent to Margaret Ardoin Gerard and the late Clarville Gerard on October 27th, 1963. She grew up in Lacassine LA where she shared a close knit bond with her sisters. Ramona, Amanda, and Amy.
Ernestine attended and graduated from Lacassine High School in 1981. Where she was a part of many extracurricular activities and organizations. She was adored by friends and faculty by being chosen for Homecoming Court and The Jeff Davis Parish Queen pageant. “Erna” was a genuine people person with a warmth of personality. Her radiance, smile, and compassion for people lead to many friends throughout life.
Furthering her education she attended Mcneese State university majoring in Fashion & Merchandising in 1985. Erna always had a beautiful classy sense of fashion. Her flair for life and gift of conversation won over many hearts wherever she went.
After graduation her adventures in life took her to Baton Rouge. She found this was her home away from home. She managed Family Chiropractic clinic for 30 plus years and became part of her second family, the Plantzes.
Erna then found the love of her life Woody Day. They had recently celebrated 30 beautiful years together. She was an adoring stepmother to Andy Day (Georgia), Susan Turk (Charlie), and Eddie Day (Heather). She adored and embraced being a grandmother to Cole Turk, Jake Day, and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of Eddie and Heathers baby boy.
Also left to cherish her memory and legacy are her mother, Margaret Gerard; siblings Amanda Gerard and Amy Gerard (David Barber); brother in law Drew Day (Phyllis), sister in law Ann Clayton, Godchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family, as well as an abundance of friends.
Ernestine was reunited in heaven by her father, her sister and her first friend, Ramona Gerard Lambeck; brother in law, Steve Lambeck; mother in law, Geraldine Bock; niece Dana Day, nephew James Clayton and fur babies Zoya, Gus, and Rocky.
In her free time, Erna enjoying caring for her fur sons Echo and Scout, watching LSU and Saints football, shopping, and yearly trips with her beach bunnies, and above all else spending quality time with her family. She also was a devout Catholic, which she practiced and devoted faithfully.
Ernestine will be remembered as the heart of her family. She was adored by all who knew her. She was selfless and kind. Always went out of her way to take care of those she loved. She enjoyed spoiling all of the kids, two and four-legged. Erna was the hostess with the mostest. She never hesitated to host a holiday party and or any party. Always made sure to have everyone’s favorite dishes on hand in fine china and tastefully decorated. With a servant heart she poured out her love to her family, friends, and strangers alike. Her only fault was focusing on others and often not thinking about herself.
The family will welcome relatives and friends on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. A rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. followed by a Liturgy of the Word at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be immediately following at Lacassine Cemetery.
Our hearts are so broken by her monumental loss; she will live on in all of us. She gifted us all with her radiance and every memory, she’s demonstrating how to use it. To be loved by her was a true blessing and gift. Words really fall short on how much we will truly miss her.
